Yesterday my wife and I took the Ulriksbanen (cable car) up for a proper Sunday reset. Nothing beats that slow, creaky ride up the mountain with Bergen sparkling below like it’s showing off just for you.

Halfway up we noticed the car was packed with people in full training gear -compression tights, fancy running vests, the whole influencer starter pack. Fair enough, I thought. Ulriken is prime hiking territory.

Then we get to the top. Almost every single one of them immediately pulls out their phone, strikes the victory pose with the city as backdrop, snaps the selfie, and ..starts walking straight back down the trail toward the city.

Wait… did they just take the cable car up, post the “I conquered Ulriken” shot, and then stroll down like it was a victory lap?
My wife and I looked at each other and just lost it. We were cracking up the whole way to the summit plateau.

Classic Bergen fitness flex -cable car to the top, quick selfie for the “gram”, then gentle descent while pretending you crushed it.

Look, no shade -we’ve all done a little mountain-related humblebrag in our day. But there’s something extra hilarious about watching a whole squad turn the Ulriksbanen into their personal elevator to glory.

Moral of the story? If you’re gonna post the peak selfie, at least earn the burn in your legs first. Or don’t. I’m not your dad.
Either way, we had a great laugh and a beautiful Sunday. Bergen never disappoints -especially when it comes with free entertainment.
